In 1970, Judy Sperle moved her hair salon from the basement of the Boulevard Liquor Building (one block north) to the present location- 13th St & Ave F- the former BuyRITE Food Store.

Judy named the salon "Judy's" and operated under the name for 10 years, then in 1980, she renamed the salon "New Image Salon". Judy's son, a graphic artist, designed a logo to go along with the new name.  New Image Salon was then sold to Les & Peggy Heid, which was successfully operated until 1997 when Greg Weimer and his mother Polly purchased it.

At the time, New Image Salon was just a hair salon but when Linda's Framing & Gallery moved out of the location next door, Greg & Polly expanded the salon and added tanning beds. It slowly evolved into an exclusive tanning salon: Hence the present name, New Image Tanning!
